Senior DevOps/Site Reliability Engineer

Full-time | Remote, hybrid or Plymouth based

The role

As a Site Reliability Engineer you will work with different software development and operational teams across the business to help develop and maintain efficient and scalable solutions that support the hosting and provisioning of our software as a service platform. This includes implementing and maintaining operational task automation, configuration and secret management, Infrastructure as Code based cloud infrastructure, CI / CD applications and pipelines, monitoring and alerting solutions and cloud native application orchestration.

You will work in an internal role with internal customers focussing on the goal of reducing toil and increasing reliability, repeatability, and efficiency. The team provide direct benefits to our internal customers, and by proxy benefits to our external customers and end users as well.

As a senior engineer you will also be managing technical projects and refining and delegating projects to other DevOps team members.

As the team leader you will also be managing technical projects and delegating projects to other DevOps team members. This includes close cooperation with other technical development teams and senior management to work towards common goals.

Due to our contractual obligations, the successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.

 


About you

You will be working in a small SRE team with demonstrable experience in operational infrastructure management, task automation and infrastructure design and architecture. Experience with tooling such Kubernetes, Prometheus, Ansible and Terraform, as well as Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform services are beneficial. Additional experience of working and managing an agile scrum based project team following GitFlow best practices is essential as well.

You are enthusiastic about new technologies, interested in the management, security, performance and stability of large scale hosting platforms and take pride in delivering a high quality of work.

Good communication skills are essential, you will be working closely with other teams and stakeholders across the business to identify their requirements, present solutions and train our internal users.

You are a good mentor and team leader, supporting your team members whilst also working as part of the team and delivering solutions to complex technical problems.

 

Qualifications

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or a related discipline, and/or industry experience in a relevant field.

Interview details:

Initial interviews will be via Teams with our Department Lead and If successful you will be invited to attend a competency-based interview either here at the GOSS offices in Plymouth or again via Teams which will last approximately 1.5 hours  You will be expected to be able to evidence previous examples of your work.

Due to our contractual obligations, the successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role. The role can be started on BPSS; full SC clearance will be required within the first 3 months. Please note that SC clearance requires a current and continuous period of residency in the UK of at least the last 5 years. Other checks for SC clearance include credit and financial history, both spent and unspent criminal records, security service records, and gaps in employment history.
