One of the most striking findings from the survey is the significant impact of leadership team support, or the lack of it on the path respondent's organisation's digital transformation journey's take. In total 60% of respondents cite a lack of leadership team support as a digital transformation barrier. This highlights the critical need for leaders to not only endorse but be actively involved in their organisation's digital initiatives, providing the vision, direction, and resources necessary to overcome resistance and drive meaningful change.

Furthermore, the survey reveals that leadership's ability to shape perceptions and approaches to digital self-service within their organisation is paramount in accelerating transformation efforts. A staggering 56% of respondents believe that a better perception and approach to digital self-service in their organisation will accelerate their plans for it. This underscores the pivotal role of leadership in fostering a culture of innovation and instilling confidence in the transformative potential of digital technologies.

Moreover, effective leadership is essential in aligning digital transformation efforts with overarching organisational goals and priorities. Half of the managers surveyed prioritise the creation of a 'one-stop shop for all citizen needs' in their digital self-service initiatives, reflecting a strategic alignment of enhancing service delivery with citizen satisfaction. Leaders play a crucial role in articulating a clear vision throughout the organisation, setting strategic objectives, and ensuring that digital initiatives are tightly integrated into broader organisational strategies.

Additionally, the survey highlights the need for leadership to drive agility and responsiveness in digital transformation efforts. In citizen-driven organisations, where rapid adaptation is paramount, 96% of managers prioritise quick outcomes from their digital transformation initiatives. Finally, effective leadership is instrumental in fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. By prioritising accessibility, quality, and cost-effectiveness in digital initiatives, leaders set the tone for organisational excellence and drive a relentless focus on delivering value to both citizens and the organisation. Through their guidance and support, leaders create an environment where digital transformation thrives as a strategic imperative rather than a mere technological upgrade.

In conclusion, the findings of our Digital Self-Service in the Public Sector survey reports underscore the necessary role of leadership in driving successful digital transformation. By providing vision, support, and strategic direction, leaders empower organisations to overcome barriers, accelerate progress, and unlock the full potential of digital technologies to drive innovation, enhance service delivery, and ultimately, deliver value. As organisations embark on their digital transformation journeys, strong leadership will remain a vital key for success in navigating the complexities of the digital age.
